What is Active and Digital Citizenship?

Technology is a great power that shapes our lives according to itself and this power has divided our world into two as real world and digital world. In addition to these two worlds existing in the twentyfirst century, generations are also divided into three categories as the X, Y and Z Generations. Children of Generation Z, who have started to leave their mark on the world and have no idea whatsoever to doubt the reality of this world, the digital world with natural needs such as oxygen and water.

While this is the case, the biggest task for us educators is to raise these individuals as principled and as people being aware of the advantages and dangers of the digital world. In other words, the schools are oblidged to train the students as responsible and aware individuals for both the real and digital world.

Why is Digital Citizenship Important?

The digital competencies of most of the children of Generation Z, which can be described as
children of technology, are far beyond the level of maturity they have, and they are able to
perform many operations in the digital world much easier, faster and in a NORMAL way than we
do. At this point, as educators as well as parents, we need to teach them how to teach the
correct eating habits, how to swim safely or to drive, as well as how to make responsible,
correct decisions and to survive in the digital world.

This course is designed to provide you with an overview of the concept of Digital Citizenship
and to understand its place and importance in both e-Twinning projects and in everyday life.
