Module 2. Digital Citizenship in Education and eTwinning Projects

Digital Citizenship in Education and eTwinning Projects

When the word DIGITAL is taken into consideration, it can also be called the key word of the
century we are living in. Keeping such a key separate from education or not including it in
what we call education would perhaps be the greatest injustice and mistake to be done to
today's children, who are the citizens of the future.
Therefore, raising digital citizens who are aware of their actions is a phenomenon that we,
the teachers, who educate individuals who manage a significant part of their time at their
 fingertips, should not ignore.
IS DIGITAL CITIZENSHIP A NECESSARY AND FUNCTIONAL CONCEPT?

These children, who were announced to be born almost as soon as they were born,
are our children and students, whose first photos, first laughs and perhaps first words are
shared in this environment. While this is the case all over the world and in our country,
trying to completely isolate the student from this environment when he comes to school is
also against the digital nature of the 21st century, and teaching them the right and ethical
way is one of the greatest trainings that can be given to our students who will be
intertwined in every point of their lives in digital technology.
In this context, Digital Citizenship Education is a necessity. At this point, e Twinning
stands out as a platform that allows our students not only to teach their digital skills,
but also to teach citizenship and fundamental values in the classroom through projects.
eTwinning is a very important platform for the development of the concept of digital
citizenship in the critical use of digital technology at a time when citizens who can do it
in the internet environment are moving away from the traditional process of democracy.
-Youth taking part in the community online

-Using digital media to fulfill citizenship duties

- It is very important for them to fully and safely benefit from the strengthening potential
of technology.
The role of e Twinning projects in the development of digital citizenship can also be seen
in detail in the book Developing Digital Citizens published in 2016 in 26 languages.
